Yes....the Fourth of July was four months ago...but I am posting the pics of my darling firecracker now. She apparently loves opening her mouth in pictures... but could she be any cuter? Before I had Brighton I blogged about??? I don't really remember...but she is my life now...therefore I blog about her. She is such a little spit fire...and when Robb met me he told me dynamite comes in small packages....watch out world...cuz Brighton is just that....
Robb and I have been married for over four years now and are expecting our first baby sometime around Feb. 8th, 2009. Our lives together just gets better and better. Robb graduated in May with his MBA and I will graduate in August with my Bachelors. We hope you enjoy getting to know our family!
Vision without effort is daydreaming; effort without vision is drudgery; but vision, coupled with effort, will obtain the prize.
Needed is the capacity to make that second effort when life’s challenges lay us low.
Stick to your task ’til it sticks to you; Beginners are many, but enders are few. Honor, power, place and praise Will always come to the one who stays. Stick to your task ’til it sticks to you; Bend at it, sweat at it, smile at it, too; For out of the bend and the sweat and the smile Will come life’s victories after a while. —Author Unknown
Annie and I returned at the end of May from a three month visit to China.
Did you know?
China is only slightly larger than the United States, but it has more than four times as many inhabitants.
Of some 50,000 Chinese characters, only about 8,000 are in use; knowledge of 1,500 is necessary for basic literacy.
The Chinese Congress has 2,979 members.
China has a goal to provide an elementary education to every citizen; nearly all eligible first-graders are enrolled.
Country and Development Data:
Location: China Capital City: Beijing Population: 1,273,111,290 Area: 3,705,820 square miles (9,598,032 sq km) Human Dev. Index rank: 87 of 162 countries Adjusted for women: 76 of 146 countries Real GDP per capita: $3,617 Adult literacy rate: Male: 91% Female: 76% Infant mortality: 28 per 1,000 births Life expectancy: Male: 70 Female: 74
Economy: China's large economy is offset by its population, meaning the real gross domestic product per capita is at the level of a developing country. While overall income is rising, wealth is not equally distributed. In a state accustomed to equal wages for all, this has been a source of contention between average people. Still, successful and honest entrepreneurs are well respected, even in rural areas. The government applauds the vibrant and growing private sector, even as it struggles to control it. Leaders contend that communism is not synonymous with poverty. Urban areas have a growing middle class. For villagers, the growing economy means better diets, but it also draws labor away from the fields and into the cities. About half of the population is employed in agriculture. Future agricultural production may require greater mechanization and better seed and fertilizer. Although only one-tenth of its land is arable, China is a world leader in producing rice, tobacco, corn, barley, soybeans, and peanuts. Wheat, eggs, pork, fish, and potatoes are also important products. China produces manufactured goods, oil, minerals, coal, and steel.
The economy grew rapidly in the 1990s, and growth is expected to remain strong. To help maintain growth, the government is investing heavily in public infrastructure. Pollution, corruption, crime, and rising unemployment are serious problems. A large budget deficit threatens the social security network and other institutions. The currency is called renminbi; the standard unit is the yuan (¥).
